Presentation
GIOPACT is a cross-disciplinary research group of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) made up by 15 members belonging to different departments and knowledge areas: architecture, engineering, economics, management, physics, psychology, etc.
GIOPACT was set up as a research group in July 2004, but since 1997 members of this research group have studied the relationship between job evaluation and women pay discrimination, developing different research projects together with the “Instituto de la Mujer del Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales” (Women Institute of the Ministry of Work and Social Affairs). The GIOPACT has taken part in research projects of the Institut Català de les Dones (Catalan Institute of Women) as well as in different European projects such as ISOS, AMPVOC and Tackling Stereotypes.
The main goals of GIOPACT are:
• To know the different ways of gender discrimination and the causes of the small number of women in the world of science and technology (and especially in higher positions).
• To design tools and performance proposals contributing to equal opportunities for women in learning and in the work market: access to jobs, promotion, salary and working conditions.
• To make aware of discrimination and educate in matter of gender.
• To provide with proposals that impel a greater participation of women in science and technology.
• To apply tools and methodologies to other forms of discrimination in certain collectives, or for reasons different from gender (culture, race, religion, etc.).
Due to the group multidiscipline, there are different research lines:
• Equality of opportunities in the organizations (public and private ones).
• Pay discrimination due to gender reasons.
• Representation of women in responsibility levels (glass ceiling).
• Representation of women in technological professions.
• Labor conditions, flexibilisation of the working day, conciliation of the personal and labor life.
• Perspective of gender in formation (detection of needs of formation, formation plans).
• Perspective of gender in education. Innovation in higher education in technological areas and experimental sciences.
• Effect of the urbanism and arquitecture in the equality of opportunities.
• Space anthropology and research of the women space.
By means of this web,we want to put our works at the disposal of all the people who may be interested. Please, feel free to send us any comment or suggestion.
